Danskin Triathalon 2005

This was my first Triathlon. Normally I only focus on bike riding. Training for this really taught me a lot, both physically and mentally. As usual the more you learn the more your realize there is to know.

Thanks to Angel Buddy Jennifer, I made it across Lake Andrea. But 27 min in the water kicking was tough and I was bummed that I "noodled it" but at least I didn't chicken out because the thought did seriously cross my mind on the shore waiting for my wave to start. Open water swimming is a totally different experience from pool/lap swimming. I can do 1/2mile in the pool in 20 min no problem! Next triathlon I will swim in open water! I want to confront and face that fear! It is a goal for me next year!!

Ah, yes, my bike! My comfort zone and my event! I cranked in this event. I had to make up for the fact that three waves passed me in the water so once on the bike I cranked it and yelled out "PASSING ON YOUR LEFT!!" very frequently just to make me psychologically feel better! Goal here was to ride 12.4 miles in 50 min but I actually did it in 44 min with an average speed of 16.5 mph. Note to self: Next year...get clip in shoes....and go even FASTER!
Riding into transition and seeing where can I pass up some more people!
Off bike and done with the ride and a quick smile for the camera! One more event to go...not my favorite event but at least is isn't more swimming!
Thumbs up for the camera "Oh don't I just love running!" NOT! But I only have 2.1 miles left, I can do this!
The last 1/4 of a mile was the big adrenalin rush! Wow! I have never experienced that feeling before and boy, it really boosted me towards the finish line! The crowds were cheering, clapping and very supportive! Some guy yelled out my number and said "Finish strong, 2024!" And boy, did that kick me into gear and I did have that burst of energy to cross the finish line! Very cool feeling! I finished 2397 out of 3450. But if I wouldn't of passed up those three women near the finisih line I could have been sporting a diamond bracelet compliments of Helzberg diamonds. They were awarding bracelets to every 100th person to cross the finish line. Oh well, I am still a winner because I finished!

What a great feeling of accomplishment! To quote from the back of the medal 'The woman who started this race is not the same woman who finished the race'...oh, how true that is!
