| Under duress due to death of original
builder this 70% complete steel sailboat is for sail with all of the
documentation, spare parts, engine, sails, rigging, and mountains of
accessories. We would like to see this project come to fruition. But the time has come to get this craft on its way. We feel $15,000 is a fair price for everything but we are open to negotiation. There is also lots of tools and equipment that are for sale. While our first choice is to sell everything as a project we are open to selling whatever however. It is a great opportunity for and ambitious sailor with time on his hands.

Hi my name is Tom. I am trying
to help a friend sell a partially completed sailboat project. This site is
to give you some details about this fascinating uncompleted project. You should know I am an avid sailor and have built and restored several boats including my own boat from a bare hull. I have cruised for several years and thoroughly enjoy messing around on boats. This project is a 42 Tom Colvin design called a Gazelle. It is a full keel all steel design. The sailing rig is a Chinese junk rig. If you have any questions feel free to email me or call (219) 670-1510 I love talking boats!

| Here is a view of the deck and pilot
house. Keep in mind cabin top is not completed. Those are just sheets of
whatever was laying around to make a roof sort of affair. With giant
chunks of lead for the keel as weights. The boat is located in Lombard Illinois and we can show it with an appointment.

| This view is of the expansive deck taken
from the pilot house. With the tall bulwarks and sturdy steel lifelines
it seems like a small ship compared to the plastic boats I am used to.
The cahin plates are integral to the life lines and very very strong.

| This picture shows the masts stepped and
the rigging up. The masts and rigging are designed so you can put up the
rig without a crane (or bridge). Self reliance was the key design
philosophy of the builder. Along with the KISS principle. All of the
masts rigging and sails are already made. Also there are piles of related pieces and parts that John has aquired over the years. Maybe they are parts for this boat maybe just nautical curiousities. Either way there is lots of cool stuff that would be very useful to finish this project.

| This is a composite of two frames to show
the full interior. The builder was a big tall fella. So there is lots of
room and headroom. on the lower right there is the only hull plate that
was not welded in place yet. It allows for much easier access to finish
the interior and adds for good ventilation for the sandblasting and
painting.
The entire hull was sand blasted and primed about 2 years ago before the builder became ill.

| Looking aft the plastic cover mass in the
middle is the SAAB controllable pitch diesel.

| the fuel and water tankage was designed
in the keels to keep the weight low. The boat has lots of thoughtful
details nicely executed in the build.

| The rudder is well protected and very
sturdy. There is accommodations for and emergency tiller that leads to
above decks. Notice how well the prop is protected.

| I guess if I show the back you would want
to see the front. The bow sprit tilts up to help step the masts. Also
notice how sturdy all of the attachment point for rigging and ground
tackle are. Also I am sure you could bounce of just about any obstacle
unscathed with that keel and steel carrying up though the bow.

| In the high wear points like hawse pipes,
cleats and sampson posts the builder used stainless. I can definitely
envision some nice sunsets on that after deck.

| Overall This project would be a fabulous
start for anyone that wants to build a dream boat. By starting the
project from this stage of completion you probably save 2-3 years of
grueling work. But you still have total creative flexibility to
implement any design details you may wish to incorporate into your dream
boat. Originally when I was thinking of my next boat. I more or less ruled out building from scratch. Building from scratch is not for the light of heart. I decided to build from a bare hull. Only slightly more complete than this hull. I was looking for steel but the bare hulls available in steel were more limited. But as far as a boat building material goes it has some serious advantages over plastic or wood. After building my boat in the back yard I am less intimidated by moving these things around and would gladly give you some ideas on how to get it where it needs to go. I would suspect it would take an ambitious builder 2-3 years to launch from this phase. There are numerous Gazelles living the dream and cruising the world. There are few experience more rewarding in life than sailing on a boat you have built, rigged fitted out or just plain gave TLC to. Most of the heavy lifting has been done on this boat and it is an excellent opportunity to cross one of those life's dreams off the list. Build a boat and go sailing.
