Scat Cat

This was my first boat building project. The I built the boat in 71. But the plans were from a 57 Popular Mechanics magazine. Now that I look at the photo I see it was one of my earlier trailer projects too.

The motor is off during  the photo. It was powered by a 10 HP Scott Attwater outboard. The motor weighed more than the boat. It was not super fast but WAY faster than a stupid high school kid should be going in an unstable boat. I was probable half as fast as your average jet ski these days.  Notice the very nice wing shape? Yeh it tended to want to aviate a bit. I did have a few spectacular landings. Only flipped it a couple times. (It would seem one would be enough.)

The steering was wild. Turn the wheel and the boat turned sideways alright. It still went straight but you would sort of skim sideways.

As usual learned lots about the good and bad aspects of boat designs.

GOOD: Fast            BAD: Ouch
